The Ateliers MC’s cantilevered bedroom is a part of an old converted warehouse in Montreal, Canada. Before the design process even begun, the homeowners made an (un)usual request – they wanted to make the most of their small flat. With a small baby (and all of the baby necessities to accompany it), space became tight in this open-space flat. The Ateliers MC’s remedy was to design a sort of balcony, still open to the entire apartment, yet raise one section in order to free up significantly more floor space. This cantilevered bedroom comprises a suspended platform sculpted from an eye-catching wood plane. A low bed is nested perfectly within this space below the ceiling, easily accessible via ladder next to the baby’s cradle.
